Nei primi anni 60 Realtone realizzò tutta una serie di radio a transistor cui diede i  nomi dell'era spaziale: la Constellation, la Electra, la Galaxy, la Pioneer, la Satellite, la Valiant, la Venus, la Voyager e la Comet (il modello TR-1088) che molti collezionisti considerano la più attraente della serie. Dopo Sony e Toshiba, le radio a transistor Realtone sono sicuramente le giapponesi più desiderate dai collezionisti.

 Realtone made a series of very attractive transistor radio with space age nicknames in the early sixties - the Constellation, the Electra, the Galaxy, the Pioneer, the Satellite, the Valiant, the Venus, the Voyager- and the Comet (model TR-1088), which many collectors consider to be the most attractive of them all. After Sony and Toshiba, Realtones are the most collectible japanese transistor radios.

La Comet è una delle più belle radio a transistor tascabili da collezione, per me è la regina delle radio. Fu costruita in Giappone nel 1959 (Smith, pagina 92) ed il suo contenitore in plastica è alto 10,8 cm, ha una lunghezza massima di  7 cm ed una profondità di 3,2 cm. Nella parte inferiore e presente una griglia metallica perforata a forma circolare sormontata da una placchetta di metallo recante incisa la scritta "8 TRANSISTORS".  Dal pannellino metallico posto nella parte  superiore, risalta una figura a forma di otto recante, nel circoletto in alto,  un'ingranditore della scala di sintonia sottostante. Due manopoline sul lato destro permettono il controllo del volume e della sintonia. Sul retro un sostegno metallico regge l''apparecchietto in posizione inclinata mentre  un 'etichetta metallica riporta il modello, il nome e le informazioni sui componenti interni: 8 transistor (tutti marcati NEC), 1 termistore ed un diodo. La mia Comet, come si vede nella foto, è di un bel color rosso Ferrari, rosso fiammante,  ed è priva della predetta etichetta. C'è un'altra radio che nello stile somiglia alla Comet: è la sua cugina Marvel modello 8 YR-10A.

The Comet is one of the most cute collectible transistor pocket radio. For me, it is the queen of this kind of radios. It was made in Japan in 1959 (Smith, page 92) and the case is plastic, measuring 4 1/4" tall, 2 3/4" to its maximum width and 1 1/4 depth. It has a lower round metal perforated grill area. The upper metal dial panel features a figure eight trim with a round magnifying window dial contained in the top circle of the eigth. There are two right side thumbwheel controls, one for tuning and one for on/off/volume. The rear of the set features a fold-out stand and a metallic paper label with the model number, name and information about the 8 transistors, 1 thermistor and 1 diode. My Comet , how it may see in the picture, is Ferrari- red  in color, a bright red. It doesn't have more the metall paper label. There is another radio that looks like the Comet- it is its cousin Marvel, model 8 YR-10A. ;

Realtone Mod.TR-861

E' un piccolo modello  tascabile che misura 9,5 cm di altezza, larga 6,5 cm e spessa 3 cm. Come scritto sull'etichetta posteriore, monta 6 transistors, 1 termistore ed un diodo. Questo modello, risalente al 1962 (Bunis, 2a edizione pagina 225) è simile al modello TR-861-1 e TR-8611, mostrata qui sotto, conosciute entrambe come "Constellation". This is a small shirt-pocket radio that measures 37/8 tall x 25/8 width and 11/4 deep. As stated on the metallic label on the rear, it uses 6 transistor, 1 thermistor and 1 diode. This model was made in 1962 (Bunis, 2nd edition, page 225) and is similar to theTR-861-1 and TR-8611 below, both models known as "Constellation"
